Ketel Marte Extends Hitting Streak to 17 Games in D-backs Loss
Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Ketel Marte extended his hitting streak to a personal career-high 17 games, putting the Diamondbacks briefly ahead before they ultimately lost 8-3 to the Tigers. Marte’s milestone came with a double to the wall, adding another highlight to his impressive season.

Additionally, Marte has now recorded exactly one hit in 15 consecutive games, putting him just one game shy of tying Ted Sizemore’s all-time MLB record set in 1975, per Baseball Reference. This remarkable consistency means Marte has managed to get just one hit in every game throughout May. If not for his two-hit performance against the Dodgers on April 29th, Marte would already have tied the MLB record.

Interestingly, despite his hitting streak, Marte’s season batting average has actually decreased from .311 to .288, as most of his games during the streak have included only one hit each.

Marte is currently sixth in the National League with 52 hits this season, making a compelling case for his second All-Star game appearance this summer.
